Is open source just source code? According to Black Duck: “Source code is actually only 15% of what is released by open source developers. There are four times as many binary files as source files in open source releases.” This seems fairly obvious to me. From documentation to scripts and more, open source is much more than source code.

SongBird è un media player opensource che è recentemente giunto alla versione 1.0. Non sono un grande utilizzatore di media player e normalmente mi adatto a quello che trovo con una leggera preferenza per foobar2000 o CoolPlayer (nella versione portable) in Windows, mentre nel mondo Linux mi piace molto Amarok di cui non sfrutto però la potenza.
Ho lasciato un po’ indietro le notizie relative e solo di recente ho provato a utilizzarlo un po’. Mi pare che sia davvero un bell’oggetto! Oltre alla “scontata” capacità di riprodurre media con diversi codec, di avere una playlist utilizzabile, presenta tutta una serie di funzionalità e di possibilità di estensione che rendono davvero calzante il paragone con Firefox.
Da tenere d’occhio con maggiore attenzione.
