Una decina di giorni fa avevo creato un account e installato un software di HP: upline. Ne avevo letto il giorno dopo da Giovy ed avevo iniziato a parlarne con un po’ di conoscenti per via delle condizioni di uso particolarmente interessanti. Certo, non c’era il cliente per Linux ma la disponibilita’ di spazio illimitato ed il logo HP mi rendevano abbastanza tranquillo. I primi test erano andati abbastanza bene anche se era subentrato qualche problemino di accesso alla parte web (mentre il client non dava particolari problemi). Non mi sono preoccupato: non si tratta di un servizio banalissimo ed in fondo anche Google ha regolarmente (o quasi) problemi al momento del lancio di un nuovo servizio.
Oggi un po’ tutti ne stanno parlando per via delle comunicazioni di HP che sostanzialmente fa marcia indietro dicendo che i non residenti negli Stati Uniti possono scordarsi il servizio. Ecco il testo che ho ricevuto (neretti miei):

Since the HP Upline Service is presently offered for use within the United States only, we will be discontinuing your current subscription. After we notify you that the Upline Service is operational again, you will have a limited period of time to access and download files that you have uploaded onto the HP Upline Service servers. After that time period, you will no longer have access to your present HP Upline Service account. Non e’ uno scherzo. Raramente sono incappato in servizi gestiti in un modo simile. Personalmente ho perso un po’ di tempo e molta fiducia in HP, quindi il danno e’ limitato. Capisco bene la rabbia di Giovy e penso che un po’ sono stato fortunato per aver rimandato la scrittura di un post che avrebbe potuto essere facilmente letto come una piena adesione e sponsorizzazione. Al momento e’ tuttora impossibile connettersi al web. Increscioso.
